Are hold ups the new women's hosiery staple?
The UK may be out of the recession, but many ladies may still be committed to clamping down on their spending.
However, after months of living sensibly with no treats, what should women be on the lookout for when they crack, that will not only bring their wardrobes up to date but also see them causing little damage to their careful saving?
According to one writer, the answer is hold ups.
Indeed, these simple garments could be the perfect way to give last year's dress a whole new look and could soon be the most fashionable type of women's hosiery available.
According to Cathy Winston, in a post for stylelist.com, hold ups are the ultimate in "oooh la la" women's hosiery.
She adds that the "super sexy" garments are the perfect way to put a little fun back into their wardrobes, now the credit crunch is showing signs of easing and the winter is finally over.
Ms Winston claims there has been a 200 per cent increase in sales of the women's hosiery items, as ladies swap their trusty black or sheer tights for a pair of daring hold ups.
And women can be even more adventurous when it comes to choosing their new hold ups, with polka dot, fishnet and lace all set to prove popular this season.
Helen Attwood, Selfridges' lingerie buying manager, said: "Even during the recent cold weather, women are wrapping up in chunky layers and wearing fashion hold ups underneath to make them feel sexy and feminine."
She added the store's customers are no longer reserving their hold ups only for special occasions either, with more fashion forward ladies choosing to make them an everyday item.
Charles Duncombe, director Tights Please, told Ms Winston that hold ups are "three times" more popular than stockings as they are easier to get on, comfortable to wear and look sexy, all reasons why they are set to prove so popular over the coming months.
And he went on to note that rather than looking old fashioned, the recent popularity of hold ups on the catwalk is bound to prompt younger women to snap them up.
Meanwhile, the Sun recently reported that the "thigh's the limit" when it comes to hold ups and stockings this season, with the women's hosiery proving a hit with the likes of Rihanna and Lindsay Lohan.
So, for the perfect wardrobe update, which draws on classic women's hosiery to create a sexy look which is ultra on-trend, the only thing women' need to loosen their purse strings for this season is a new pair of hold ups.
