Why black tights are staple for over-30s
Women over the age of 30 may wish to look to celebrities of the same age if they want to see how to dress in a way which is both stylish and suits their age, one fashion expert has claimed.
And stocking up on a selection of women's hosiery could mean they are able to get away with anything the seasonal trends throw at them.
Indeed, opaque black tights could be a must for ladies, as they are an on-trend way to let women get their legs out, without worrying they are flashing too much flesh.
The UK has a few fashionable older women who demonstrate the best clothes to wear past a certain age, says Lizanne Harris, fashion director at Stylist Magazine.
Helen Mirren is one such icon, who always dresses for the red carpet in a way that does not see her over-shadowed by her younger counterparts but still ensures she looks sophisticated and glamorous.
However, Ms Harris explains that over the pond, celebrities over the age of 30 are far better at dressing to impress.
"I do think Americans do it better, like Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie [...] That sort of simple sophistication is very American and it is one of the trends for spring/summer that American preppy sports feel. It is very wearable," she explains.
The Telegraph's Hilary Alexander recently offered some advice to older ladies on how to stay stylish. She recommended they don't discount the classics, ensure they accessorise and never attempt to wear anything too short or too tight regardless of their age "unless you're Lady Gaga".
And celebrities can not only offer inspiration when they are on the red carpet - they are even getting creative and making their own fashion designs available to the public.
In 2001, Kylie Minogue designed a collection of women's hosiery, sheer tights and nylon stockings for Agent Provocateur.
For a number of years now, black tights have been a wardrobe staple for many stylish celebrities.
Pulling on such women's hosiery with a short skirt or mini-dress can ensure the outfit does not look too over-the-top and can allow an evening frock to be instantly transformed into a day dress.
Black tights can also add a rocky edge to pretty floral dress and look great when there are teamed with either heels, boots or trainers.
As well as looking good, women's hosiery has the added benefit of ensuring ladies stay warm whatever the weather, even if they opt to wear a dress or skirt and the temperature nears freezing, as it has done in recent weeks.
Indeed, black tights continue to be a must-have for anyone looking to keep their wardrobe up to date and after several years in vogue they look unlikely to go out of style any time soon.
So whatever their age, now may be the best time to invest in some black tights and get ready for the new season of style.
