Big tights tips handed down to fashionistas
Published: 27th April 2010
The Daily Mail isn't one to shy away from handing down commandments when it comes to fashion, yet it's one particular accessory that's being given the full dedication of the newspaper.
Considering the importance of tights, it noted that it is simply forbidden to get the style wrong, such as wearing shoes in nude shades or anything that "screams summer" including cork, raffia or, at the very worst, flip-flops.
Contrast works well, however, with the Mail explaining that black tights can look good with anything from bright colours to pastels; despite this, very thick, high-denier tights are "too wintry" and should be avoided like the plague.
It concluded: "If you want to wear a black shoe, experiment with coloured tights - they can look brilliant with a peep-toe especially if the rest of your outfit is simple."
The prime minister's wife Sarah Brown was recently criticised and praised for her pairing of red open-toed cork-heeled wedges with navy blue opaque tights, though it was widely agreed that it was more of a negative look than positive.
