Can sock retailers join mobile commerce boom?
Published: 03rd August 2010
IMRG, the e-retail organisation, has claimed that mobile commerce is at a "tipping point" where consumers now expect to be able to purchase items using their mobile phones.
In conjunction with full service mobile interactive agency New Toy, IMRG has come up with a number of reasons why retailers should be making it easier for shoppers to purchase things like socks, tights and stockings via their mobile phone.
The main reason is that mobile commerce is growing and is set to be worth £119 billion (£74.5 billion) by 2015.
In addition, mobile commerce allows retailers to communicate with shoppers anywhere and at any time.
IMRG also claims that 25 per cent of consumers say they will look at competitors if they cannot browse items on a retailer's website using their mobile phone.
Recently, IE Market Research estimated that mobile payment transactions would hit the £1 trillion (£630 billion) mark by 2014.
