Sock buyers may be looking online
Published: 05th August 2010
A quarter of high street shopper leave store with nothing bought and then turn to the internet to actually buy what they are looking for, new research has found.
The study from Envirosell and RichRelevance questioned shoppers in London and New York and found that about half leave high street stores empty-handed, with half of these completing their shopping online.
Brits thinking of buying socks or tights may wish to do some research on the internet, after the report found that Londoners are far less likely than New Yorkers to check out deals online before looking on the high street.
Envirosell founder and chief executive Paco Underhill commented: "The growth of the internet has meant that the consumer is now not only more empowered, but often three or four steps ahead."
The news comes after online retailers reported a profitable June, with IMRG/Capgemini data showing 20 per cent year-on-year growth during the month.
