Socks for homeless campaign gains ground
People in US are being given the opportunity to help the homeless after a local shop teamed up with the Salvation Army for community scheme.

Every time shoppers at any one of the four Army Navy Outdoors shops in Florida purchase a pair of gym socks or gift socks a pair will be donated to the charity, which will then distribute them to homeless people, according to WPTV News Channel 5.

Sam Zackowitz, owner of the stores, told the news provider: "At the end of the year, we are going to give the Salvation Army probably 1000 or 2000 pairs of socks absolutely free."

The scheme, which started on August 1st, has so far raised over 50 pairs of socks to be donated.

Several recent sock drives in the US and the UK have sought to collect socks for another worthy cause - soldiers serving on the frontline in Afghanistan.
