The case for organic socks

The case for organic socks
Consumers are increasingly questioning where products come from, making the business case for Fairtrade ever stronger, it has been claimed.

This is the view of Fairtrade Foundation business development manager Vanessa Brain, who said that it is not enough for firms to make their own claims about ethical sourcing.

She said that independent certification gives consumers the trust that brands are complying with international standards and are prepared to "take that extra step".

"Consumers are increasingly questioning brands about where their products come from, how they are made, and how they are treating people within their supply chain," Ms Brain explained.

Her comments will no doubt be good news for manufacturers of socks and legwear sourced from organic materials and ethically produced cotton.

Leading labour and human rights groups in the US, Canada and Europe have recently called on the Bangladesh government to end its repression of garment workers.
