Popularity of tights highlighted by strong sales figures
Published: 24th December 2009
Tights are an absolutely necessary item of clothing to have, if recent sales figures are anything to go by.
Marie Claire reported how Marks & Spencer, last week alone, sold four pairs of tights a second, with plenty of ladies looking for lovely legwear to ensure their warmth as well as their street cred.
The famous fashion resource pondered as to why this may be the case, though concluded that it likely had a lot to do with the sheer number of celebrities who are currently donning statement tights across the world, including Fearne Cotton, Cheryl Cole and Taylor Momsen of Gossip Girl.
Black opaque tights did particularly well at Marks & Spencer, selling 44 pairs a minute, though with all kinds of high street battles going on over the festive break, shoppers may prefer to avoid the snow and ice and instead make their purchases online at dedicated stores.
Earlier this week, Fearne Cotton attacked Simon Cowell over the famous Christmas number one battle, angered by his comments that implied that Joe McElderry was being bullied, with the presenter explaining to the Daily Mirror that it was about the music, not the personality.
