Ambulance service set to ban 'unprofessional' fun socks

Fun socks worn by paramedics working for the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) have been banned by NHS bosses who think they are unprofessional.
The novelty cottonsocks, which are so often a fun birthday or Christmas present for unsuspecting fathers, uncles and aunts, have been targeted alongside wrist watches and visible body piercings in new dress code policy.
But the idea of restricting when and where people can don their fun socks does not sit well with many paramedics.
Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph, branch secretary of the NWAS Unison Branch Craig Wilde made a plea for common sense.
He told the newspaper: "Obviously if you are wearing a uniform where your socks are visible then I can see the point.
"But we wear uniforms with trousers and boots so you wouldn't be able to see our socks."
Meanwhile, in a recent article for Alibaba.com, president of the Hosiery Association in the US Sally Kay suggested that there has been an upturn in legwear sales recently, which is doubling as an unusual indicator of fashion trends.
Ms Kay suggested that legwear is being selected over lipstick to update a look in a cheap and cost-effective way, emerging from the global economic downturn.
