Meggings are 'awful creation'
Published: 01st February 2010
A lot of fashion styles can only be worn by a relatively small demographic, but one hosiery style in particular is practically unforgivable across the board, one style writer believes.
Jackie Kochell of the Indiana Daily Student explained that the only thing worse, in her eyes, than the famous-yet-barely-stylish trend of leggings is their equivalent for men: meggings.
Despite Russell Brand and Adam Lambert generally pulling the look off, she asserted that not only were they awful enough as it is, but designers were making them even more deplorable with textured fabrics and prints.
"I haven't seen too many megging-clad men on campus, but I'm sure they're out there," Ms Kochell continued. "Wear them if you want, guys, but come up with a better name than a hybrid of 'man-leggings,' because they even give leggings a bad name."
Another portmanteau for hosiery - mantyhose - is also becoming popular, largely meaning the same thing though often encompassing tights for blokes as well.
