Socks used in 'therapeutic get-together'
Published: 12th February 2010
The stress of life can get on top of everyone, but for one person, all it takes is a little bit of ingenuity and two or three socks to really get relaxed.
Sarah Ingram, a woman from Kings Heath in Birmingham, had her ideas shared on AboutMyArea, with the stitching specialist starting regular classes at Kings Heath community centre to share her love of making puppets from unused footwear.
Ms Ingram explained that after one difficult day in particular, she saw a stuffed toy made from socks and decided to make one herself with basic sewing skills, though her engagement with the activity was soon "exciting" that her problems simply "melted away".
"I wanted to share this sewing therapy with others and I've since run workshops with all sorts of people who found it fun, relaxing and sociable," Ms Ingram concluded.
The most famous kind of sock puppet is perhaps the Sock Monkey made with official Rockford Red Heel socks, originating in Fox River Mills.
