Socks and sandals 'second biggest fashion faux pas'
Published: 31st July 2008
Socks and sandals have been named as the second biggest fashion faux pas of the summer, following ill-fitting swimming trunks.
The list, which was compiled by Debenhams, shows that despite what some high-end designers may be trying to make people think, socks and sandal will be considered a fashion crime by many.
According to a Daily Telegraph report, 92 per cent of respondents to the poll agreed with the stereotype that Brits have awful fashion sense on holiday, while 82 per cent admitted they cringe when they see fellow Brits sporting style disasters abroad.
Speaking to the newspaper about these findings, a spokesperson for the high street store said: "Looking stylish abroad is so important and there's no excuse to wear hideous clothing combinations like socks and sandals, saggy bikinis or cycling shorts on the beach."
Meanwhile, Big Brother housemate Sara recently donned a socks and sandals combo as part of a Holiday in Heaven task.
According to Channel Four's website, she described the ensemble as "cool".
