Socks on show for King of Pop tributes

Socks on show for King of Pop tributes
It's not often that having bright white socks on show could be considered a wise idea, but thousands of pairs have been on display since the death of music legend Michael Jackson.

His trademark look - tight black trousers, white ankle socks and black shoes - was all the rage during the Moonwalker era and has been making a comeback since the King of Pop's death.

Hundreds of Michael Jackson fans gathered in South Africa last week to perform the infamous dance moves in tribute to the icon, the BBC reports.

Crowds in Johannesburg's Nelson Mandela Square did the moonwalk, many dressed in the white socks, black shoes and glitter gloves.

Today, thousands of people have been gathering in Los Angeles ahead of the memorial service for Jackson, with local retailers offering up pairs of white socks for those who want to pay a fashion tribute.

Millions are expected to watch the event on television and online all around the world.
