Third time not a charm for Sarah Brown
Published: 14th July 2009
As the wife of a prime minister or president, it is only natural that you assume people will judge you on your dress sense - after all, you're constantly in the public eye.
And while Sarah Brown, the wife of prime ministerial husband Gordon, clearly knew this to be the case, she didn't quite live up to the high expectations which other first ladies such as Michelle Obama and Carla Bruni have set before her, according to Sandra Howard of the Daily Mail.
The journalist and former wife in politics explained that en route to Italy for the G8 summit, a pair of too-pale tights did nothing other than make Ms Brown's legs look much bigger than they are, with a "sober" black jacket also hardly complementing the cream skirt she paired it with.
While sticking with the hosiery, and opting for a swing jacket, striped skirt and peep-toe platforms, Sarah then undermined herself with a wide belt, Ms Howard added, though managed to save herself towards the end of the day by losing the legwear altogether.
Many women will happily agree: it's not often that hosiery detracts from an outfit!
Ms Brown was praised by the RSPCA this month after she declined to eat veal twice when attending the G8 summit.
