Do couples buy more socks?

Do couples buy more socks?
Singletons spend more than £250,000 a year more on essential living costs over a lifetime than people who live as part of a couple.

This is the verdict of new research by uSwitch.com, which suggests couple might have more money to spend on things like novelty socks, funky tights and golf socks.

According to the study, single people have an average of £4,794 a year less disposable cash to spend than a person who is in a couple.

Moneymaxim.co.uk managing director Mark Bower said there is no doubt that single people have to fork out more for essential living costs such as mortgage payments and utility bills.

"They probably have their own car, rather than a car [shared with] the family, and they can end up spending a bigger proportion of their income as a result," he explained.
