Flight socks urged for high-risk DVT passengers

People who are at risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) while flying have been given guidelines on how to prevent the condition.
The wearing of flight socks, such as special compression stockings can stop DVT for those most at risk, the British Cardiovascular Society (BCS) has claimed.
A new report that looked at people's fitness to fly noted that anyone who is either at moderate or high risk of DVT should think about flight socks as part of a series of measures to take to prevent the potentially fatal condition.
Moderate risk flyers are those that have had DVT before, are pregnant, obese, have blood clots easily or anyone who has had surgery in the last four to eight weeks.
High risk passengers are those who have suffered from DVT before and also have another risk factor such as cancer or have had surgery in the last four weeks.
DVT is the formation of a blood clot in a deep vein and can also affect the arm, when it is known as Paget-Schrotter disease.
