Online clothes sales 'boosted by sunny weather'

Online clothes sales 'boosted by sunny weather'
Online clothes sales enjoyed a bumper June because of the summer heat wave, it has been claimed.

It seems that the hot weather meant that people were more likely to stay at home and buy socks online rather than wander around high street shops.

According to market analysis firm Verdict Research, the combination of needing to update wardrobes with summer wear and not wanting to spend hot days trawling round shops meant Brits stayed at home to buy their clothes.

"Buying online is a quick and easy way of getting summer clothing without having to spend time traipsing around the shops," explained Sarah Peters, a retail analyst at the firm.

Her comments come after the latest IMRG/Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index reported that online clothes vendors saw a 22 per cent increase in sales in June compared the same month in 2009.

Over one hundred online retailers, including those that sell socks, tights and stockings, contributed to the survey.
