Soldiers to benefit from sock drive

Soldiers to benefit from sock drive
Soldiers who serve on the frontline in places like Afghanistan face all manner of hardships, not least of which is the problem of freezing feet caused by not having enough socks.

That is one reason behind a family in the US organising a community sock drive to send pairs of socks to troops serving abroad, Weny-TV reports.

Another problem facing the soldiers is the problem of cleaning their socks while on tour.

"Because they're fighting, they don't have any running water, they don't have any way of cleaning their socks out, and they're desperate for socks," said Pam Weachock, owner of Market Street Coffee & Tea, who is helping out by offering discounts in her shop if people bring in a pair of socks.

Last month, the Warrington Guardian reported on a similar initiative in the UK to send much-needed socks to British soldier serving in Afghanistan.
