Stockings may not be the answer for Iran

Stockings may not be the answer for Iran
Footballers' strips are usually pretty standard affairs - a short sleeved shirt, shorts to the knees and a pair of long socks.

Not so, it seems, for the Iranian girls' football team, which may not go to the Youth Olympics in Singapore next month because of an issue over their kit, according to a Press Association report.

The kit consists of stockings, a cap and long-sleeved tops in order to reveal as little as possible after FIFA banned hijab headscarves.

However, the deputy head of Iran's physical education department Marzieh Akbarabadi does not feel this goes far enough and has threatened to withdraw the team from the competition.

Nylon stockings made the headlines after recently celebrating the 70th anniversary of the first time women could pull on a pair of tights made from the new material.
