Brownies' sock pet project
Published: 15th June 2010
A group of brownies have been turning their attention to doing something for stray and abandoned animals at the Livingston County Humane Society shelter.
Girls from brownie troop 2049 in Pinckney collected hundreds of socks and made them into toys for the animals, according to the Livingston Daily.
It said: "The girls took the donated socks and stuffed them with catnip or tennis balls and turned them into 380-plus toys for the animals at the shelter."
Collecting socks for charity seems to be catching on in the US, after a sock drive was launched to collect footwear for young children in hospitals.
The Tiny Toes Sock Drive recently saw schools competing to collect the most socks and was the idea of Bethanney Winder, whose twin sister Faith died from congenital birth defects.
