Buying celebs old socks is 'unhealthy'
People's obsession with celebrities is beginning to take a turn for the surreal with a growing trend of stars' old clothes being bought by members of the public.

Buying the old socks and dresses of film stars and princesses over the internet is a fad too far, according to the Observer's Victoria Coren.

"The world is swamped with old socks and T-shirts that have been flogged off by everyone from Paris Hilton to Bono," she complained.

"We shouldn't be buying these wealthy celebrities' unwanted stuff, they should be buying ours."

She also points out that buying secondhand clothes from celebrities means you get all the drawbacks of old clothes without benefiting from the main plus side - that they are cheap.

Old socks from less famous people were recently donated to British troops serving in Afghanistan after the mother of a soldier organised a campaign.
