Girl sparks sock craze in memory of twin sister
Published: 02nd June 2010
An eight-year-old girl has taken her family's long-running tradition of making donations to local hospitals in the form of socks to a whole new level.
Bethanney Winder has been donating socks to hospitals along with the rest of her family ever since her twin sister Faith died from congenital birth defects nine years ago, the Nevada Appeal has reported.
Faith was remembered for her brightly-coloured socks during her hospital visits and her sister Bethanney has decided to take the sock craze to all the schools in Carson City.
She took her Tiny Toes Sock Drive, which started at her own school, to other schools and it is now a competition between schools to collect the most socks.
Mother Christine told the paper: "The fact that she would want to do this is just amazing for someone so young.
"I'm proud of her compassion she has for other children."
Recently, a San Francisco-based charity has been calling for people to donate socks for another worthy cause - to help clean up the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
