Hosiery industry is 'thriving'
Published: 11th March 2009
Tights continue to be a big part of the fashion scene at the moment - so much so that it has made the legwear industry as good as recession-proof, according to an Australian company.
Speaking to the Herald Sun in the island nation, Marlene Smillie of the Melbourne-based Ambra Corporation said the use of stockings and leggings is particularly popular as it is a cheap and reusable accessory for most outfits, powering the market.
The expert continued: "Not only do we see hosiery as being a little bit recession-proof, it's actually a little bit of a trend.
"Everyone knows you put on a pair of black opaques and you really feel chic."
Ms Smillie added that coloured, printed and tartan tights are expected to rise in popularity over the coming months.
Legwear is not only fashionable but practical too, with James F Brown of Canyon News stating earlier this week that socks and tights can help protect pins from abrasions and chafing.
