'Tween' Dora set to feature stockings
Published: 19th March 2009
A new updated version of the much-loved childrens cartoon character Dora the Explorer sports purple leggings.
The new 'tween' version of the Nickelodeon favourite is set to be unveiled by the broadcaster and toymaker Mattel.
However, despite her cool new leggings, the new Dora has attracted criticism from all directions over concerns that she has lost her image entirely.
Responding to the criticism, president of Nickelodeon Viacom consumer products suggested that the old Dora will not be lost beneath her new legwear and jewellery-laden facade.
She told the Associated Press: "People care so deeply about this brand and this character.
"Dora that we all know and love is not going away."
The character was originally intended to engage pre-school children in exploring exciting locations across the globe.
Nickelodeon recently introduced an interactive series of Dora the Explorer encouraging children to join in with her adventures.
The official tween version of Dora is set to be unveiled later this year.
