Patterned tights 'make most people look like elephants'
Published: 31st March 2010
Women are embracing patterns with absolutely everything this season, though the legs may be one place to avoid cladding in different colours and shades, according to a new report.
Luke Leitch of the Times explained that the 80s look of patterned tights is leading to a number of fashion revivals, though only a few people can pull the look off.
He said that the "one irrefutable truth" is that patterned tights make all but the longest, thinnest legs look like those of a "galumphing elephant".
Luke didn't stop there, either; he continued: "I'm not talking normal, healthy svelte elephants - I'm talking obese, hip-heavy elephants that ought to resign from elephant Weight Watchers for being irretrievably remiss and setting an appalling example to the not-quite-as-hugely-fat elephants in the class."
With the wide array of styles available and many never leaving the catwalk, it may be a case of jealousy on his part that they are just the preserve of women.
This week, StyleList explained that Hollywood superstars such as Nicole Richie and Jessica Alba are showing legs often in the spring by pairing summer shorts or cut-offs with tights, whether they are patterned or not.
