Patterned socks 'the idea way to show support'

Patterned socks 'the idea way to show support'
A lacrosse team in the US has found an innovative way to combine legwear with showing support for a teammate.

The South River girls' lacrosse team have all donned pink sports socks for every game in tribute to Brooke Griffin, whose mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and died two years ago, the Washington Post reports.

Coach Kim McNemar decided that wearing the patterned socks were the ideal way not only to support Brooke, but also to raise awareness of breast cancer in general, which the American Cancer Society estimates will affect one in eight women.

"Putting the pink socks on reminds me of her and how hard I want to work to make her proud," Brooke told the newspaper.

She added: "It does remind us of her and her spirit."

Socks met charity in the news again recently, after the Dallas News reported that a Dallas fund is helping to distribute shoes and socks to children affected by the earthquake in Haiti.
