Silk stockings are Ken Clarke's 'top choice'

While the previous Lord Chancellor Jack Straw may have been more at home in a 21st century business suit similar to that worn by his cabinet colleagues, it seems the new incumbent prefers silk stockings.
Silk stockings may not be the choice for most men, but for a Lord Chancellor it's the traditional garb.
Ken Clarke looked perfectly at home at his swearing-in ceremony in all the finery which, in addition to the hosiery, included a full-length wig and a gold brocade gown.
While Russell Crowe has eschewed tights in his new role as Robin Hood, it seems that in Westminster at least, the tradition of an Englishman wearing stockings is still being upheld.
