Socks and sandals look hits the catwalks
Published: 19th May 2010
While Italian or French women would never be seen dead in the two items together, it seems that in Britain a pair of socks worn with sandals is the look that's in.
It appears some of the major fashion houses have been indulging in some "sartorial eccentricities," according to Susannah Frankel of the Independent.
She said the look has been spotted on the catwalks of some of the big fashion companies such as Burberry and Dior.
Wearing socks and sandals may not only be a fashion statement but also could have a very sensible, practical motivation.
Frankel wrote in an article for the newspaper: "It's far from balmy out there and a nice pair of socks has the happy effect of ensuring British toes remain as warm as toast whatever the weather."
Anyone who does feel the need to wear a pair of socks with sandals should choose footwear made from cotton or other natural fibres, according to the NHS.
