Layering is 'great for hosiery'
Published: 20th November 2009
Women wanting to truly pull off the glitzy look of the catwalk for this season will genuinely benefit from an investment in hosiery, according to a leading fashionista.
Emma Sibbles of the Guardian explained that by putting socks at "centre stage", a lady can use stylish shock and awe tactics to impress anyone she wants.
She said: "You've bought your new-season colourful or patterned tights, but before you pull on your boots, add a thick pair of socks, wrinkle them down so they're just showing above your boots and, hey presto, you have added warmth and a catwalk look to boot."
Ms Sibbles also noted that the Marc by Marc Jacobs show earlier this season proved to be a major educational supplement for anyone trying to get the style down.
It was proof that fashion can be practical as well, she added, noting that stripy knitted tights worn under his "trademark quirky dresses" were complemented with cream knee-high argyle socks, which went under hiking boots or furry shoes.
This week, Eilidh MacAskill, the editor at InStyle, explained that printed hosiery should always have a plain accompaniment.
