Snake thief attempts to sock it to customs
Published: 28th October 2009
A man has failed in his attempt to smuggle a particularly strange cargo into Norway after he was halted at the border by customs officials.
The 22-year-old man, who has not been named, was discovered to be carrying no less than ten snakes and 14 geckos about his person when he was stopped by law enforcement officers after hopping off the ferry at Kristiansand following a lengthy trip from Denmark.
What's more, the man had taped them to his chest and inside of his legs, curling each one into a sock.
A tarantula in the man's bag was enough to shock the team into searching the man completely, discovering that there were a few more royal pythons and geckos to be had.
Norway has banned the importing of lizards, meaning they are worth a lot of money to collectors.
This week, an Illinois bin was discovered to be the home to a two-headed snake, with a couple keeping it to ensure its survival.
