Former hockey stars to don tights for US TV show
The newest show to harness the power of hosiery is about to hit the ice in Canada: Battle of the Blades.

Former stars of the National Hockey League (NHL) - the biggest league of its kind in the world dedicated to Canadian and American teams - will be pitted against each other in a Dancing on Ice-style contest, except with more money and arguably bigger celebrities.

Two stars are already gaining headlines due to their on-ice fights during their career days in the NHL: Tie Domi, formerly of the Toronto Maple Leafs, and Bob Probert, who used to be with the Detroit Red Wings.

Both are regarded as "enforcers" - players whose main role was to intimidate and, in extreme cases, fight the opposition - though the necessity to wear tights may keep the more extreme elements of masculinity under wraps after the dancing.

Bob Probert is the current holder of the Detroit Red Wings franchise records for career penalty minutes and number of minutes in the sin bin over the course of a season.
