Can patterned tights make women over 50 look fab?
Published: 02nd September 2010
Looking stylish is still important to women over the age of 50, a fashion expert has said.
FabafterFifty.com editor Ceri Wheeldon said that older women "don't want to be frumpy, we absolutely want to be stylish but we don't want to be mutton dressed as lamb, we want to be age appropriate but with a bit of flair".
So, are women of a certain age branching out into buying women's hosiery that is more readily associated with the younger generation like fishnet tights or funky stockings?
Sales of swimwear and bikinis usually reserved for the under-30s may suggest just that, after Debenhams reported that sales of these items is soaring thanks to role models such as Goldie Hawn and Helen Mirren.
The store found that, when questioned on what type of swimwear they take on holiday, 71 per cent of women aged between 50 and 65 said they ditched a one-piece swimsuit in favour of a bikini.
