Mum launches socks for soldiers campaign
Published: 27th September 2010
Soldiers serving in Afghanistan face all kinds of hardships, not least of which is the country's changing weather, which can be blisteringly hot in the desert and freezing cold up in the mountains.
This is why one mother of a soldier serving with the Iowa Army National Guard, who is about to be deployed to Afghanistan, is launching a campaign to collect socks for troops.
According to KIMT News 3, Julie Crail is behind the Sock it to Our Soldiers campaign, which is raising money to buy good quality mens socks for her son Jason and his fellow troops.
"Like Jason said the socks that get supplied to us our adequate, but they don't keep them as comfortable and their feet as dry. It's just like one of the little comforts from home," she told the news provider.
Other concerned mothers have started similar initiatives, such as Dot Glassey, who led a project that collected 1,600 pairs of socks for British soldiers in Afghanistan, reported the Warrington Guardian.
