Red socks to fly in honour of naval hero

Red socks to fly in honour of naval hero
Lieutenant-Commander Colin de Mowbray, who died suddenly earlier this year, is to be remembered with a unique sailing homage.

Red socks will be flown from the backstays of eight boats taking part in a regatta at Lymington this Saturday (October 2nd).

The Red Socks Regatta is being held in memory of the former naval officer, who became operations director for the Clipper Round the World Race, because of his penchant for this type of mens socks.

He passed away in July after a career in the navy spanning 30 years that included being second-in-command of HMS Alacrity during the Falklands War and his receiving of an MBE.

It was recently reported by KIMT News 3 that a mother of a US soldier due to be sent to Afghanistan is raising funds to buy socks to send to troops in the country.
