Smelly socks save helpless hound
A pet pooch stranded down a 60-foot mine shaft has been rescued by the most unusual of means, it has been reported.

The Daily Mirror has reported on the "miraculous" escape of Bean, a two-year-old Jack Russell who was left stranded.

A quick-thinking RSPCA inspector came up the idea of using socks to entice the dog into a pet cage that was lowered down.

Apparently, the familiar smell of his owner's feet was enough to encourage Bean into the cage and be raised to safety.

His owner John Power told the newspaper "It's miraculous that he has survived this unscathed."

Recently, socks came to the rescue of a homeowner in Pennsylvania, when a pair of hapless thieves were caught with mens socks on their hands, in an effort to avoid leaving finger prints.
