Ray Mears urges Britain to wear long socks
Survival expert Ray Mears is encouraging people to cover up to prevent tick bites and Lyme disease, by making some careful clothing choices.

This week marks Tick Bite Prevention Week and the star has been out urging people to cover up with long socks, sleeves and trousers to prevent being bitten.

Tick bites, while a nuisance, are also spreading the little known Lyme disease which can cause rashes, swelling and further complications.

However, organisers of the event stress that symptoms can be lessened through regular checks for bites and monitoring their appearance.

Wilderness specialist Ray Mears notes that long socks are particularly important in the summer months, when spending time in the garden or exploring on holiday becomes more commonplace.

Tick Bite Prevention Week lasts from April 11th to April 17th with educational and fundraising events across the country.
