Wrap up warm for winter's revenge

Just when you thought spring had properly sprung, long-suffering Brits are set to be plunged back into winter-type conditions this weekend.

People venturing out may have to temporarily abandon their warmer weather wardrobe and root out their hats and scarves if the forecasters are right.

They are predicting rain, hall, thunder and even snow.

And the weather looks set to get worse as the weekend goes on.

Friday's clouds and patchy rain across Northern Ireland, Wales, southern Scotland and southern England look likely to develop into something heavier and more persistent. Some higher areas of eastern Scotland might see snow.

Saturday should bring more prolonged bouts of rain. Risks of thunder and hail are predicted for southern Britain during the afternoon with wintry showers expected to follow.

Sunday could bring wintry, heavy showers amid the sunshine over some parts of Britain. Next week should begin with bright weather, but also the prospect of showers, thunder and hail across the west and north.
