Online sellers are still finding it difficult to shift certain items on their internet retail sites, it has been claimed.
Consumers are much more comfortable buying something that does not require touching first, according to Internet Retailer magazine editor Don Davis.
"A book is a book, and consumers are happy to buy it online. A diamond necklace is something else," he explained.
So is legwear
any harder to sell than a diamond necklace? For most people looking for gift socks
or funky tights
the answer is probably no.
Mr Davis also suggested that internet retailers are getting much better at presenting their products to consumers, with images, video and other information.
"But those complex and highly considered items are still a challenge for retailers to sell online," he added.
His comments come after sock sellers helped to contribute to bumper a June for online retail, with the industry reporting a 20 per cent year-on-year increase.
