Hayley Atwell pulls on the leggings

Hayley Atwell pulls on the leggings

Hayley Atwell pulled on a pair of leggings for the Jamie Lloyd season press conference at the Trafalgar Studios theatre in London on Wednesday.

The 31-year-old actress combined the black leggings, with a dark navy denim shirt and a pair of bright red boots in an elegant, yet casual outfit.

The Captain America star was unveiled as part of the cast for a West End production of Alexi Kaye Campbell's The Pride.

Atwell, who will take on the role of Sylvia, will star alongside Gavin & Stacey star Mat Horne and Harry Hadden-Paton in the Jamie Lloyd directed performance.

The Pride follows on from the critically acclaimed The Hothouse, which saw Life on Mars leading light John Simm acting alongside Simon Russell Beale in the Harold Pinter play.

Atwell will return to the big screen next year with the release of the much anticipated Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

The London-born actress will reprise her role as British agent Peggy Carter in the follow up to Captain America: The First Avenger.

Jennifer Hudson pulls on high socks

Jennifer Hudson pulls on high socks

Jennifer Hudson pulled on a pair of long thigh-high socks as she performed at the Do Something Awards in California on Wednesday night.

The 31-year-old singer pulled on a short black skirt to accompany the long black socks, a baggy white v-neck t-shirt and a black and beige jacket for the event at the Avalon in Los Angeles. A large gold cross necklace and chunky ring completed the ensemble.

In keeping with her edgy outfit, Jennifer wore hair dark locks in a poker straight style, with some added blonde streaks.

The awards celebrate inspirational people aged 25 and under, who have started projects that aim to help change the world.

As well as performing Hudson was honoured for her work with the Julian D King Foundation, which helps support children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

King, who was Hudson's nephew, was killed along with her mother and brother in 2008, by her sister's estranged husband, William Balfour.

Other celebrities that were honoured include Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Kelly Osborne, LL Cool J and Patrick Dempsey.

Brooke pulls on football socks

Brooke pulls on football socks

Corrie star Brooke Vincent swapped her tights and leggings for football socks on Sunday as she took part in a charity WAGs vs celebrities football match.

The actress teamed her white football socks with a baby blue shirt and shorts and orange and white football boots as she joined the likes of Chelsee Healey and Carolynne Poole on the pitch.

The WAGs team featured Dani Lawrence, Jessica Lawlor, Jude Cisse and Mhari Oakes.

But while the WAGs may have had some extra coaching from their sports star partners, it did not pay off as the celeb side claimed victory, with Brooke's performance being singled out for praise.

Funds from the football match, which was organised by Emile Heskey's partner Chantelle Tagoe, raised cash for the One Goal Foundation.

A men's match also took place, pitting professionals against celebs. Ricky Hatton and a number of Coronation Street and Emmerdale stars took part.

Should Zooey try coloured tights?

Should Zooey try coloured tights?

Quirky actress Zooey Deschanel is rarely seen without a pair of black tights covering her legs, leading E! to suggest that she try a new look.

The entertainment site said that now warmer weather is here, she should try baring her legs, rather than sticking to her trusty opaque tights, as she did when attending a recent FOX event.

Obviously we're huge fans of tights here, and can see why Zooey is reluctant to ditch her favourite legwear. Black tights help preserve your modesty if you're wearing a short skater skirt, like those favoured by Zooey and can also come in pretty handy if the Great British summer weather turns chilly.

So we'd suggest that if Zooey wants to try a new look she could opt for some coloured tights every now and again. In the past she has been spotted out and about in red and grey legwear; however, there are a huge range of other colours and patterns available.

Polka dot tights would suit Zooey's quirky ensembles, while bright purple or blue tights would look great teamed with black dresses.

Fresh socks a travel essential

Fresh socks a travel essential

DJ Seth Troxler has said that a pair of fresh socks is one of his travel essentials.

Speaking to the Red Bull Music Academy, the musician said that pulling on some clean socks for a journey can make people feel much better, no matter how long they have been travelling.

"At the airport you're looking horrible, your shirt's open, you're sweating but you're like 'I got new socks on - incredible'," he added.

And it's not the first time Troxler has professed his love for footwear. Earlier this year he told Don't Panic magazine that a pair of socks is always on his rider for gigs, adding that a new pair of socks is "the best thing in the world".

"If I get a pair of really nice socks from someone it's like, yeah they're really pulling out all the stops tonight," he joked.

We wonder if the DJ has any particularly crazy patterned socks in his collection?

Stripy socks on trend for men

Stripy socks on trend for men

Glossy mag Men's Fitness has highlighted a big footwear trend for men; stripy and patterned socks.

The publication suggested that style savvy men ditch bulk bought black socks in favour of something a bit funkier.

It added that if you are not ready for a "super crazy print" then a classic striped sock will always look great peeking out from beneath your trousers.

Adding a hint of personality to an outfit with your socks is a great way to stand out and show off your individual style, whether you are wearing a classic suit at work, or relaxing in jeans and a t-shirt at the weekend.

If you really want to tick all the style boxes, why not hunt out a pair of patterned socks in this year's hottest print, florals?

Brands such as Pringle, Jeff Banks and Calvin Klein all offer a variety of brightly-coloured footwear which will be a great addition to any sock drawer.

Hayley Williams rocks cage tights

Hayley Williams rocks cage tights

Paramore star Hayley Williams sported some unusual legwear as she took to the stage at the Teen Choice Awards in LA over the weekend.

The singer, who is often seen wearing ripped or patterned tights, wore some eye-catching cage-style tights with a pair of clunky black ankle boots.

She teamed her hosiery with a black and green checked crop top and matching skirt and debuted her new significantly shorter hair do. The look was completed with some dramatic eye makeup.

And it wasn't just Hayley who was modelling some tights on stage, with the group's backing dancers wearing white tights and black tutus. However, they weren't doing any ballet moves, preferring to rock out to the group's new song Still Into You.

Hayley also posed on the red carpet at the Gibson Amphitheater with her bandmates Jeremy Davis and Taylor York, swapping her on-stage ensemble for a black dress with white leather and studded detailing.

Over the knee boots back in fashion

Over the knee boots back in fashion

It may seem like summer has barely begun, but fashionistas are already looking ahead to what will be on trend this winter and those with style know-how will be rocking over the knee boots.

The likes of Tom Ford, Celine and Emilio Pucci have all featured over the knee boots in their upcoming collections and even British Vogue has given them the seal of approval by featuring them in the August issue.

Stylish celebs have embraced the trend already, with Rita Ora, Rihanna, Britney Spears and Kate Moss all modelling a pair in recent weeks.

If you are going to try over the knee boots yourself, you need to pair them with the right legwear. We suggest either some knee-high socks, to stop them rubbing against your skin, or some statement tights. You can only see a bit of the pattern at the top of your leg, so the bolder the better.

Tanit rocks suspender-style tights

Tanit rocks suspender-style tights

South African model and actress Tanit Phoenix modelled some on-trend legwear as she attended the Australian premiere of Elysium this week.

At first glance her tights seemed boring, but the star actually ditched plain opaques in favour of fashionable suspender-style tights, which could just be seen beneath her red lace strapless dress.

Tanit completed the ensemble with some sky-high black heels and silver bangles, with her brown curls worn loose over her shoulders.

The dress was similar to the red satin floor-length number which Tanit wore to the movie's LA premiere.

The actress posed on the red carpet with her boyfriend Sharlto Copley, who stars alongside Hollywood a-lister Matt Damon in the sci-fi flick.

Damon also attended the event Down Under, however, the film's other star Jodie Foster was noticeably absent.

Her bandmate Jess Plummer wowed in a red trouser suit, while Shereen Cutkelvin looked glam in a skin-tight patterned mini skirt, white top and sky high red heels.

Last, but by no means least, Amira McCarthy modelled a white jumpsuit and black heels.

Socks and wellies galore at V-Fest

Socks and wellies galore at V-Fest

This year's hottest festival trend continued over the weekend at V Festival, with socks and wellies being flaunted by a whole host of revellers.

A mixture of wet and warm weather made this combination of clothing a particularly popular choice.

However it was not just the socks and wellies combo that made a fashion statement at the Weston Park venue near Stafford, as this trio (pictured) proved.

Crop tops, short-shorts and bumbags all made an appearance at the two-day festival.

With the Reading and Leeds festivals taking place this coming weekend, style-savvy festival goers will surely be prepping their wellies and over the knee socks in case of bad weather.

Artists performing at V Festival over the weekend included Calvin Harris, the Script and the Stereophonics.

Beyoncé's electrifying set was one of the most exhilarating moments from the Stafford and Chelmsford-based festivals.

The Kings of Leon, who previewed tracks from their upcoming album Mechanical Bull, also produced two standout performances.

Snoop Dogg spotted in pink socks

Snoop Dogg, or Snoop Lion as he likes to be called nowadays, pulled on some eye-catching pink sports socks for the 1st Annual Athletes vs. Cancer Celebrity Flag (American) Football game in California on Sunday.

The rapper wore a baggy pair of board shorts, a vest-top with a lion motif and a pair of long black socks, over which he wore bright pink Adidas sport socks off the field at the charity event at Palisades High School.

However, by the time he came to take to the field Snoop Dogg had changed into the celebrities' maroon American Football jersey as well as switching from pink to white socks.

The 41-year-old hosted the event alongside NBA star Matt Barnes, with a whole host of other American sporting icons turning out to support the good cause.

US rapper Nelly was also spotted at the event, which helps to support cancer sufferers, survivors and their families.

No socks for One Direction's Louis

No socks for One Direction's Louis

One Direction's Louis Tomlinson defied convention at the world premiere of the group's fly-on-the-wall documentary This Is Us.

The 21-year-old was spotted without socks on the red carpet as he pulled on a pair of black brogues, navy denim jeans, a black blazer and white t-shirt for the event.

Tomlinson, who signed a non-contract deal with hometown club Doncaster Rovers over the summer may want to remember his socks if he is ever called up for Donny.

Fellow group members Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne and Harry Style opted not to follow suit in flaunting a lack of appropriate footwear at the event held at the Empire in Leicester Square on Tuesday.

The documentary, which is directed by acclaimed US documentary maker Morgan Spurlock, follows the boys through the last three years since they became X-Factor finalists in 2010.

One Direction were not the only TV talent show stars to take to the red carpet, with former X-Factor winners Little Mix also making an appearance.

Fishnets for Kate Nash at Reading

Fishnets for Kate Nash at Reading

Kate Nash pulled on a pair of fishnet tights for her performance at Reading Festival on Friday.

The 'Foundations' singer combined the fishnets with a clunky pair of black shoes, a pink skirt adorned with sparkling multicoloured hearts, and a sheer black top with an elaborate yellow decoration. The singer topped off her eccentric outfit with a sparkly piece of headwear.

Nash, who released her third studio album Girl Talk in March after a three-year absence from the music scene, has recently announced a low key UK tour in October before jetting off to the US.

The singer, who has recently been reincarnated in an indie punk guise, also became the latest star to slate reality TV show, the X-Factor, adding to comments that actor Nicholas Lyndhurst recently made suggesting that the talent show may be playing on people with mental health problems.

Green Day, Biffy Clyro and Eminen all headlined this year's festivals, which also featured performances from Frank Turner, Chase & Status and chart toppers Bastille.

Gaga flaunts leggings at VMAs

Gaga flaunts leggings at VMAs

On first glance you might have thought that Lady Gaga had decided to tone down her wild looks as she appeared in a blue two-piece suit at the MTV VMA Awards on Sunday.

The sparkly blue jacket and skirt combination was topped off with a pair of black sparkly boots, a black vest top and a pair of black leggings. Despite Gaga pulling on a trademark, ill-fitting blonde wig, she look remarkably respectable for once.

However, this new image lasted less than 60 seconds as the two-piece suit was removed in favour of a black leotard.

While Miley Cyrus was hitting the headlines for her raunchy 'twerking' and latex underwear during a performance of Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines, it was Gaga who still managed to produce the night's most revealing outfit, ending her performance by stripping down to just a thong and seashell bra.

The horror on the faces of Will Smith and family as the singer emerged from behind her backing singers in her skimpy outfit said it all.

However, after previous years when 27-year-old Gaga has shown up for the same awards ceremony wearing a dress made from meat and drenched in soaked blood, perhaps this can be considered a relatively tame ensemble?

Katy Perry pulls on her long socks

Katy Perry pulls on her long socks

In other years Katy Perry's outfit during her performance at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday might have been the most talked about of the night, however the Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga fiasco prevented the Californian grabbing any headlines.

Granted Perry's combination of long white sports socks, a flame patterned pair of black boxing shorts and a tiger printed vest top (surely homage to Rocky Balboa) was a little tamer than those flaunted by her fellow singers, it was also more fun.

The 'Firework' singer donned the outfit as she closed out the awards in New York with a special performance of her latest single 'Roar', underneath the Brooklyn Bridge in an elaborately constructed boxing ring stage. It marked the first time that Perry had played the song live.

The 28-year-old's third studio album under the name Katy Perry, 'Prism', is set for release in October, although the track listing is still to be finalised.
