Mobile and digital communications company Mobile Interactive Group (MIG) has been finding out how easy it is for shoppers to purchase that most beloved of Christmas presents - a pair of socks
- using a mobile device.
The MIG Sock Report tested 57 retailers on their m-commerce capabilities, finding that only 16 had a mobile application and just nine of these are able to process a transaction.
Overall, less than one-quarter (23 per cent) allowed customers to find and buy a pair of socks
through their mobile phones and just four retailers had an optimised transactional site.
Ben Cusack, group marketing director for MIG, said m-commerce has become a "huge opportunity" for the retail sector as consumers seek to buy at a time and place that is convenient for them.
"The Sock Report clearly demonstrates that the fashion subset of the retail sector is lagging behind somewhat," he commented.
