Silly sock success for Welsh charity
There are many unusual ways to raise money for a good cause yet one Welsh charity has managed to find an even odder way of filling its coffers.

Cancer Research Wales has called upon a few brave souls to spend the day wearing the silliest socks they can find and encourage their family and friends to sponsor them.

It suggests people get their whole school or workplace involved to raise the much-needed funds for the charity, which has generated more than £3 million through various campaigns over the last few years.

Staff at Glendales Fruit Shop in Cardiff have been taking part in the silly sock fun for seven years now and have raised a staggering £14,000 for the charity.

They told the South Wales Echo they had decided to take part when the manager's mother was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Angela Nelson, manager of the shop, told the local newspaper the customers look forward to the event and the staff enjoy donning fun socks and novelty socks.

"I think other people would enjoy holding their own silly socks day. You get a good response because nearly everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer," she commented.
