One mother from Florida is collecting foot wear for her son and his fellow troops in Afghanistan, according to a report.
Barb Vurnakes of Ocala began collecting new men's tube socks after her son informed her of the need for them by troops overseas, reports Ocala.com.
The collection of socks will be sent to her son's Marine platoon after its troops are deployed to Afghanistan in the next few weeks.
"I did not know how important troops' feet are when they are on assignment and unable to bathe for days at a time or wash clothes," she told the news site.
"They will need lots of socks because they will go through as many as three pairs a day and may have to discard them."
Meanwhile, the LosAltosPatch reports that a group of women have been crafting sock monkeys for children at the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford for over thirty years now, producing a total of more than 5,000.Check out our Best Sellers
