Reese Witherspoon wears grey tights on film set

Reese Witherspoon wears grey tights on film set
Reese Witherspoon sported a glam circus-style outfit as she shot scenes for her new film Water for Elephants with British actor Robert Pattinson.

The Cruel Intentions actress donned a revealing silver sequinned leotard, with large chunks cut out, complemented with grey tights and boots.

Pattinson and Witherspoon were on set to make some amends to shots taken several months ago.

Water for Elephants tells the story of circus performer Marlena Rosenbluth and veterinary student Jacob Jankowski, who fall in love, despite the fact Marlena is married to the animals' head trainer at the circus.

The Daily Mail reports that Reese spoke highly of her co-star, best known for playing vampire heart-throb Edward Cullen in the Twilight films.

"He's sweet and loving and has the nicest family. Kristen is really sweet, too. He's a very sensitive soul. He worked really hard. He looks great in the movie, too."

This comes after quirky singer Eliza Doolittle told the Guardian she wears colourful clothes and funky tights as they make her happy.

Funky tights 'make Eliza Doolittle happy'

Funky tights 'make Eliza Doolittle happy'
Rising star Eliza Doolittle has said that she wears colourful clothes as they make her feel happy, one newspaper reports.

The singer-songwriter told The Guardian that her favourite outfit is short shorts with funky tights and chunky jumpers.

She added that she pairs most ensembles with hi-top trainers as she "is not a huge fan of high heels".

Eliza also said that when something becomes trendy she immediately dislikes it.

"I hate the idea of being a sheep and just following a look because I've been told it's fashionable. Individuality makes the world a much more interesting place," the Pack Up singer told the newspaper.

She also admitted to a fashion faux pas in her early teens, confession to a Garage Girl phase involving slicked back hair, tracksuit bottoms and midriff tops but saying: "you have to make mistakes".

This comes after kooky singer Jessie J attended the Brit Awards 2011 Nominations Party in a black lace catsuit with funky tights.

Seth Rogan 'would have worn tights in The Green Hornet'

Seth Rogan 'would have worn tights in The Green Hornet'
Comedy actor Seth Rogan said he would have donned traditional superhero leg wear for his part in The Green Hornet if it would have added anything to the role.

Rogan plays newspaper publisher Britt Reid who fights crime as The Green Hornet at night in the adaptation of the famous graphic novel.

Despite losing a substantial amount of weight for the role, the actor shunned the stereotypical superhero tights and capes.

Music Rooms reports the star as saying: "Well, I suppose I would have put the tights on, but only if there was some justification for it. I'm not averse to that. I've not been overly precious. As long as there's a general green feel to it, I felt good with it."

Meanwhile, real life superhero Phoenix Jones is sporting tights while fighting crime on the streets of Seattle in a story similar to the plot of hit film Kick Ass.

Jessie J wows Brits in ultra funky tights

Kooky singer Jessie J has set tongues wagging in the fashion world by turning up at the Brit Awards 2011 Nominations Party in a black lace catsuit, complete with funky tights.

The 22-year-old Do It Like a Dude singer, who was recently named the winner of BBC Sound of 2011, took to the stage in clothing that left little to the imagination.

She was confirmed as the winner of this year's Critic's Choice award, and now it looks like she'll be making waves in fashion too.

Speaking to the Evening Standard, the Essex-born singer said: "I'm so overwhelmed right now it's unbelievable. I'm feeling amazing. I've been doing this for six years, and it just feels like there are more people watching me do it."

However, she plans to take herself, and maybe those funky tights, to even greater lengths in future, hinting that she wants to "be an icon for the UK".

Skiers 'should wear appropriate socks'

Skiers 'should wear appropriate socks'
When preparing for a ski trip, packing the correct foot wear is essential, experts claim.

Sacha Gros, manager of Vista Bahn Ski Rentals tells Vail Daily that although it sounds obvious, many people turn up at the slopes opting for two pairs of socks or regular cotton socks instead.

He adds that skiers should stay away from bulky or cotton socks as it puts too much pressure on the foot, adding: "We usually have to sell them a pair [of ski socks] because you can't fit the boot properly."

Other advice when shopping for or renting skiing equipment, says Grant Leffel, a salesman at Christy Sports in Vail, is to be truthful about your ability level, telling the newspaper: "If you're magic carpet material, don't tell the shop you're the best thing that ever happened to black diamonds."

This is because a ski shop will fit your equipment to your experience - a skilled skier, for example, could have longer skis.

Ke$ha brings in 2011 in fishnet tights

Ke$ha brings in 2011 in fishnet tights
A host of stars took to the stage in Times Square to bring in the New Year in style.

If Ke$ha's look is anything to go by, edgy tights and legwear will be just as big in 2011 as it was in the past year.

The controversial singer paired ripped fishnet tights with a silver sequined leotard under an open white shirt and sparkly black jacket - accessorising with black aviators and fingerless gloves.

She was billed to perform a medley of her hits after a performance by the USO's Liberty Bells and the wedding of Marine Corps reservists Bethany & Geoffrey who won the chance to get married in Times Square.

Following Ke$ha's performance, Elvis Crespo was billed to treat crowds to a rendition of 15 Inviernos and Suavemente, the Backstreet boys and New Kids On The Block to perform a medley of their hit songs and Taio Cruz to perform Falling In Love and Imagine.

Tina O'Brien looks tired in tights

Tina O'Brien looks tired in tights
Former soap star Tina O'Brien was snapped looking tired but chic in the run up to the nationwide Strictly Come Dancing tour.

The actress paired lacy black tights with tiny hot pants, knee-high boots, striped top and long coat for a shopping trip.

However, her smart ensemble did not take attention away from her drawn complexion, most likely a result of an increasing workload.

O'Brien has complained that she has put on lots of weight since she was voted off Strictly with dancer partner Jared Murillo, so is excited for the tour so she can lose the extra Christmas pounds.

"I've told Jared, my dance partner, expect a whale because I can't stop eating. And because obviously I'm not dancing any more I'm just going to get bigger and bigger," she said.

This comes after the actress, famed for playing gymslip mum Sarah Louise Platt on Coronation Street, told the Mirror that she is happy being a single mum, for now.

Real life superhero dons tights to fight crime

Real life superhero dons tights to fight crime
A real-life superhero is reportedly patrolling the streets of Seattle and fighting crime, in what looks like a scene straight out of cult graphic novel and film, Kick Ass.

The man, known as Phoenix Jones, has donned tights, a mask and a black and gold lycra ensemble to help make the streets of Seattle in the US a bit safer.

He has already enjoyed one successful battle in his fight against crime - preventing a man from breaking into a car and potentially stealing it.

The car owner, known as Dan, said he had begun dialling the emergence services when Phoenix Jones came to the rescue.

Since Phoenix first pulled on his crime-fighting tights nine months ago, the masked crusader has been stabbed once and threatened with a gun several times, although he has escaped any serious injury.

He told CBS: "I symbolise that the average person doesn't have to walk around and see bad things and do nothing."

This comes after the release of Kick Ass in 2010. The film told the story of Dave Lizewski - an unremarkable teenager who dreams of becoming a superhero and one day decides to do so despite a blatant lack of powers or training.

Maternity tights - mummy miracle or myth?

Maternity tights - mummy miracle or myth?
Expectant mums may need leg wear that offers more substantial support than specialist high-street maternity under wear during pregnancy, and have been urged to seek medical advice if they suspect a serious physical ailment.

Maternity tights have gained a host of endorsements from celebrity mums-to-be of late, but may not offer the required level of support for more serious bone, joint or posture conditions during pregnancy.

Speaking to the Guardian, Hampstead Osteopathy director Ben Posen explained that maternity support belts are generally more suited for common ailments such as lower back ache than maternity tights.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Royal College of Midwives Dame Lorna Muirhead said: "If a woman has severe back problems or problems with her pelvis during pregnancy, it would be advisable to refer her for appropriate specialist advice."

However, for mums keen to keep any unexpected lumps and bumps under control during pregnancy, maternity tights could be just the thing and may help to guard against uncomfortable chaffing as mothers-to-be adjust their wardrobes.

Socks essential for Ugg boot wearers

Socks essential for Ugg boot wearers
A good pair of foot coverings could be one way to prevent a nasty case of fungus if you wear Ugg boots, it has been suggested.

Speaking to Fashionista.com, podiatrist Dr Olivier Zong, director of surgery at NYC Footcare, said the fashionable sheepskin boots could be a haven for fungus, which breeds in dark, wet environments.

According to the magazine, wearing socks made from an acrylic fibre can wick moisture away from the feet, preventing a potentially hard-to-treat case of infection.

Additionally, other podiatrists say there is no cause for undue alarm - Dr Howard Shapiro of Manhattan Podiatry told the publication: "Foot fungus affects about 40 per cent of the population - prior to Uggs it was still affecting 40 per cent of the population."

Meanwhile, the33tv.com reports that yet another podiatrist, Dr Rachel Verville, advises against wearing the Australian boots for long periods as they can cause foot pain.

Men 'should match socks to trousers'

Men 'should match socks to trousers'
Some men don't always know what's best for them when it comes to style, which can lead to embarrassing situations for their partners.

Luckily, myjoyonline.com is hosting an article that offers some simple tips on how girls can ensure their man's style issues do not become a nightmare.

One simple rule to remember, advises the article, is to match his socks to his trousers, although not the exact shade - and patterns are also encouraged.

In addition, he should always match his belt with his shoes, staying with traditional colours such as black, dark brown or tan. However, if he wears jeans and trainers, a more casual belt is advisable.

One other piece of advice is to buy him a good watch that would suit his lifestyle and taste, with the author claiming: "Watches are the single most important accessory a man can own."

This comes after film star Seth Rogan said he would have worn tights in The Green Hornet if it would have added anything to the role.

Don't wear high heels too often, warns expert

Don't wear high heels too often, warns expert
High heels should not be worn every day as they can damage your posture, according to one expert.

Lorraine Jones, podiatrist from the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists, said that although high heels are fine for special occasions, they should not be worn daily.

"Wearing high heels alters your posture, placing increased pressure on your knee and back joints. The height of the shoe elevates the leg, which shortens your calf muscles," she explained.

A Saga magazine survey found that 72 per cent of women older the age of 50 still wear high heels, with many of them no doubt choosing to pair the footwear with legwear such as tights.

Research from Insolia also found that the average woman lasts 34 minutes in a new pair of shoes before grimacing with pain.

Four in ten women revealed they bring a spare pair of pumps to change into because they know their shoes will rub.

More than 5,000 sock monkeys crafted over 30 years

More than 5,000 sock monkeys crafted over 30 years
A group of women have been crafting toy monkeys for charity for over thirty years now, producing a grand total of more than 5,000, according to a report.

The LosAltosPatch reports that the women have met every Monday since the seventies to make the monkeys out of socks, which are given to seriously ill children at the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford.

Speaking to the newspaper, the Monkey Toy Ladies explained how they use old tights and socks to produce between 300 and 400 per year.

Lily Hioki, a member of the group, told the paper: "A few of our members have left because they moved away but most of our members come just about every week until they pass on. Our day will come too, but until then we'll be here making monkeys."

This comes after The Times Leader reported that the Foster Grandparent Program and Retired Senior Volunteer Program collected over one thousand pairs of socks as part of a "Sock It To Us" project in the US.

Choose alpaca socks to stave off the winter blues, experts say
Alpaca foot wear is just the thing to keep feet toasty during winter, according to experts.

Margaret Bikman and Zoe Fraley of the Bellingham Herald write that alpaca socks are a great option for keeping feet warm and cosy this winter.

"Cold hands might be the sign of a warm heart, but nobody wants to put up with cold feet," they write.

One other tip for getting through the winter blues include a steaming cup of tea in the morning, with special blends such as cinnamon available to make it a bit more interesting.

This comes after Sacha Gros, manager of Vista Bahn Ski Rentals told the Vail Daily that skiers must opt for ski socks while out on the slopes.

Although it may sound obvious to some, he explains, many people choose to wear two pairs of socks instead, which do not fit the boot properly.

Use socks to make economic baby products, says one writer

Use socks to make economic baby products, says one writer
Men's foot wear is great for making economical homemade baby products, according to one writer.

Tom McMahon, of Mercury News, said that men's boy's white athletic socks can be cut to size to make great baby knee pads.

One other option is to put socks to use as bottle holders, he continues, as they have a great grip.

In addition, baby socks can be made skid-proof by parents by painting designs on the bottom using fabric paint.

Other tips include blending homemade baby food and freezing it in plastic ice cube trays, advises the author. The ice cubes can then be stored in a freezer bag until they are ready to be defrosted and eaten.

Wear tights with vintage knits for a seasonal look, say experts

Wear tights with vintage knits for a seasonal look, say experts
Followers of fashion should try pairing chunky tights with vintage clothes as their wardrobe transitions from winter to summer, experts say.

Those interested in the trendy vintage look should pair chunky leg wear with brogues and a vintage dress and knit, according to two experts.

Clare Rees interviews two vintage fans on Wales Online who report that the vintage look is great when transitioning for winter to summer looks.

"Wearing pretty vintage dresses with chunky knit tights, brogues and a chunky vintage knit is a great way to combine vintage and high street between seasons," says Sarah Pellow, 30.

Her friend Reena Pasotra, 27, added that the next big vintage trend is likely to be from the 70s during the summer, after the success of vintage dresses and Christmas jumpers.

This comes after Nancy Won wrote in the Toronto Sun that those braving the winter cold should optimise their body heat by donning good quality socks.

Matt Dellandrea, national training specialist for atmosphere and sport Chek told the paper that good quality polyester, polypropylene or merino wool suck the moisture from feet to avoid them becoming too cold.

Avoid bad quality socks during winter, expert advises
During winter, people should ditch cheap foot wear in favour of better quality polyester, polypropylene or merino wool, according to one expert.

Writing for the Toronto Sun, Nancy Won advised those braving the cold to learn how to optimise their body heat with socks.

Matt Dellandrea, national training specialist for atmosphere and sport Chek told the paper that it is important to wear a sock that will suck the moisture from feet to avoid becoming cold.

"If you're active outside, the last thing you want to be wearing is a cotton tube sock that has no shape," Dellandrea told the newspaper.

"Look for socks that have flat seams and strategically placed compression zones, which help increase oxygenated blood flow, keeping you even warmer."

This comes after Margaret Bikman and Zoe Fraley of the Bellingham Herald wrote that alpaca socks are a great option for keeping toes toasty during winter.

Natalie Portman dons ballet tights for Black Swan

Natalie Portman dons ballet tights for Black Swan
Ballet thriller Black Swan is the second most nominated film at the BAFTAs after The King's Speech after scooping a win at the Golden Globe Awards.

Natalie Portman donned ballet tights for her challenging role as mentally unstable prima ballerina in the film and was rewarded with the Best Actress in a drama title at the much-hyped US awards show.

The actress has attracted much critical acclaim for her part in the film after having lost a substantial amount of weight to get into character and really dedicate herself to the part.

Focusing on the brutal world of ballet, the film follows the story of ballerina Nina who is given the part in the New York Ballet Company's production of Swan Lake, for which she must depict the part of the innocent and pure White Swan, but also the sensual Black Swan.

Overprotected by her mother, self harming and suffering from an eating disorder Nina descends from her already shaky mental state into complete madness.

Kate Moss recently hit headlines as she went out and about in Paris during Couture Week, reports say.

According to the Daily Mail, the model paired opaque black tights with shorts, a green top and a black blazer, donning a quirky hat to round off the look.

First graders enjoy 'ice skating in socks'
First graders at Oak Ridge Elementary in North Carolina enjoyed a spot of ice skating without the traditional foot wear, it has been reported.

WFMY News 2 writes on digtriad.com that the students were asked to participate in a couples ice dancing routine - wearing socks in place of skates.

"I thought it was really cool that we got to do it, it made me feel like I was on the real skating rink."

Makeup to be "playful" this spring

Makeup to be "playful" this spring
A toned down neon lip and a return to pastels will be the defining make up trends of the spring, according to one expert.

People are going to be more playful with their colour this spring, according to Zara Rabinowicz, editor of Kiss & Makeup.

If this trend catches on in clothes and footwear too, the high street could be awash with colourful tights and socks.

According to Ms Rabinowicz, "For the summer we're going to see a return to the neon lip, but toned down - less ruby red, and more cherry pink, with liner used to create the perfect Cupid's bow."

Meanwhile, Celebrity stylist Mark Hill has said that one of the key women's hair trends in spring and summer will be soft and sexy waves, as seen on the catwalks of Paul and Joe, Martin Grant and Julien MacDonald.

In addition, weave and wave will also be bang on trend involving plaits, braids and weaves.

Wedding guests 'can now wear black'

Wedding guests 'can now wear black'
Wedding guests should feel free to wear any colour, as long as it is not white, according to one expert.

Stylist Nicky Hambleton-Jones has said that although black is not traditionally worn to weddings, "nowadays anything goes".

If this trend catches on, brides could see a lot more of their friends attending their wedding in dark dresses, tights and shoes.

Last week, future princess Kate Middleton, made waves in the fashion world as she wore a black dress and coat to a friend's wedding.

Ms Hambleton-Jones said: "Pick something that really suits your shape and your mood - you're no use to anyone wearing something that you're not comfortable in because you won't have fun and it will show."

However, she did add that it is inadvisable for guests to wear white because this could risk upstaging the bride.

According to research by Direct Line, wedding guests plan to spend an average of £215 getting ready for each wedding. This includes attire, travel, accommodation, childcare, drinks and the cost of attending.
