Socks essential for Ugg boot wearers
A good pair of foot coverings could be one way to prevent a nasty case of fungus if you wear Ugg boots, it has been suggested.

Speaking to, podiatrist Dr Olivier Zong, director of surgery at NYC Footcare, said the fashionable sheepskin boots could be a haven for fungus, which breeds in dark, wet environments.

According to the magazine, wearing socks made from an acrylic fibre can wick moisture away from the feet, preventing a potentially hard-to-treat case of infection.

Additionally, other podiatrists say there is no cause for undue alarm - Dr Howard Shapiro of Manhattan Podiatry told the publication: "Foot fungus affects about 40 per cent of the population - prior to Uggs it was still affecting 40 per cent of the population."

Meanwhile, reports that yet another podiatrist, Dr Rachel Verville, advises against wearing the Australian boots for long periods as they can cause foot pain.
