Going to put some socks on in the morning only to be faced with dozens of odd socks and no pairs is undeniably frustrating. And then when you grab two seemingly identical black ones, it turns out they are completely different on closer inspection.
However, a new development could be key to ending this problem with an iPhone app helping people match their footwear.
The theory is that each sock contains a small microchip, similar to those used in contactless bank cards and when you come to pair socks after a wash you simply scan them into your phone to check you are matching them correct right and left with one another.
The chips also store details such as how many times the socks have been through the wash.
However, if high tech socks seem a bit too futuristic for you, we suggest investing in lots of pairs of brightly coloured patterned socks so that it is obvious which one goes with which.
