Dragons' Den star Peter Jones was selected to invest in one group of contestants' business endeavour due to his legwear choices.

A band, Hamfatter, approached the Dragons in a bid to get £75,000 to fund recording their album and publicising themselves but found themselves having to choose which entrepreneur to work with after they all expressed an interest in the band, with Jones' stripey socks putting him ahead of his rivals.

Writing in their website, the band noted: "Peter Jones said 'I just love music. I don't play music but I love it.' And that for me was something big…plus he was wearing stripey socks."

The band also said that the tycoon's mammoth height made him feel like a father figure to them.

"It was 33 per cent music, 33 per cent socks, 33 per cent tall," they added, noting that the socks of a such a tall man would be able to fit a lot of stripes on them.

The Daily Mail previously reported that Mr Jones feels his bright socks, which he often dons in public, express his "wacky" side.
