Sock thieves claim £14k of hosiery
One socks fan took her desires too far in the wrong direction, resulting in her arrest.

Carmen Alvarado Talavera, a 46-year-old employee of Carolina Hosiery in Burlington, was charged in an American court with larceny by an employee as well as felonious possession of stolen property after she stole no less than £14,000 worth of socks from her workplace.

To rub salt into the wounds of her employers, Carmen went on to sell the legwear at a local flea market, with officers recovering up to £8,500 of stock from a nearby storage unit.

The discovery follows reports of a large-scale theft from the company, who told police about the issue only a few days before arrests were made.

Socks recently caused a furore in the press after it was discovered that controller of BBC One Jay Hunt spent £50 on luxury socks using licence payers' money.
