New Zealand sets world sock record
New Zealand has set a new world record to raise money to remember the country's famous yachtsman Sir Peter Blake.

The Sir Peter Blake Trust encouraged schools, organisations and individuals to send more than 30,000 red socks to create a three kilometre length of legwear.

As the new world record for the longest line of socks, it significantly beat the former record holders in Germany who's collection measured 2.3 kilometres.

It was organised as part of Red Sock Day, in remembrance of Sir Peter Blake always wearing red socks to bring him good luck in competitions such as the America's Cup Challenge of 1995.

Sir Peter Blake died in 2010, after being shot by pirates while on an environmental exploration trip in South America to monitor pollution for the United Nations.
