Christina Milian looks electrifying in pylon leggings

Christina Milian looks electrifying in pylon leggings
Christina Milian made sure she looked electrifying this weekend as she stepped on to the red carpet at the 2012 BET Awards.

The pint-sized pop star wore a pair of electricity pylon print leggings and a high-necked grey crop top to tie the look together.

Complementing the bright orange flashes on her legwear, Christina matched the look with a pair of orange suede platforms and slim hooped-earrings.

Christina wasn't the only lady wearing leggings on the red carpet, as singer Faith Evans went for a covered-up chic look with a pair of leopard-print leggings.

On her top half she wore a cream coloured blouse and a black blazer, while her brunette locks were swept up into a tight bun on top of her head.

Youngster Willow Smith also proved that she wasn't afraid to experiment with her legwear as she posed for photos wearing black, holey leggings, which perfectly complemented her alternative and androgynous dress sense.

Mad hatters head to Oxford exhibition

Fans of Alice and Wonderland are invited to join in with a new exhibition at Oxford's Story Museum.

Visitors are encouraged to dress the part with top hats and pocket watches, according the Oxford Mail, as the staff pay tribute to local author Lewis Carroll.

The exhibition is entitled Tea with Alice and will run until September 16th, bringing together work from more than 20 artists around the world, all keen to put their own twist on his classic tales and unforgettable characters.

Speaking with the newspaper, museum researcher Sophie Smith explained: "The exhibition explores ways that the Alice stories translate across the world.

"Visitors can explore different editions in the 'Read Me' Room, vote for their favourite illustration in the 'Pick Me' space and have fun with hats and word games at the Mad Tea Party," she said.

Court reporter ejected for wearing sparkly leggings

Court reporter ejected for wearing sparkly leggings
A court reporter from New Zealand was recently ejected from a murder trial after the judge deemed her clothing choice to be inappropriate.

Laura McQuillan, a reporter for NZ Newswire, arrived at Wellington's High Court wearing a black long-sleeve shirt paired with glittery gold leggings.

The 25-year-old was sitting on the media bench for the trial of Scott Guy, but was approached by a registrar and asked to leave before the lunch break.

Commenting angrily on her Twitter account afterwards, Ms McQuillan said: "I'm sitting under a table! No one even sees my legs!"

While there are no specific clothing rules for media members in the courtroom, the Ministry of Justice does ask reporters to "please attend court suitably and professionally dressed" in its short media guide for court reporters.

However, Ms McQuillan's choice of sequins perhaps does not fall under the professional dress code.

UK 'is a nation of designer handbag lovers'

UK 'is a nation of designer handbag lovers'
UK shoppers may not be known for their high class tastes, however a new study has shown that designer shopping habits may be more common than expected.

British shoppers love their designer handbags more than any other country, according to research conducted by the Digital Luxury Group.

The analysts determined this by looking at global online shopping habits, measure demand against each country's active internet population, which proved that UK consumers have the highest affinity for luxury handbags, with 422 searches per 1,000 internet users.

This is in comparison to 315 in the US, 196 in Italy and only 185 in France.

In the UK Mulberry was named as the most searched bag brand, while Coach was found to be the world's most in demand designer handbag maker.

Other top brands include Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Gucci, Lonchamp, Prada and Hermes.

Odd socks sought for community quilt

Odd socks sought for community quilt
An art centre in Galesburg, US is asking residents to look through their dryers and drawers to help out with a new project.

The Galesburg Civic Art Center is searching for odd socks to help create a community quilt with the help of Studios Midwest resident artist Susan Lenz at the end of this month.

Those interested in their socks becoming part of the beautiful bedding should drop them off on the evening of July 6th.

Sock donations will then be open for collection throughout July at the centre's main building. However, locals are reminded to try and bring in footwear that is clean and in a relatively good condition.

The Studios Midwest Residency Program will be running the project with sponsorship by Blick Art Materials and state agency, the Illinois Art Council.

Outkast's Big Boi brings out personalised socks

Outkast's Big Boi brings out personalised socks
While many hip hop stars launch jeans or trainers, Big Boi from Outkast has taken his creativity in another direction.

The rapper has launched his own sock range in Atlanta, Georgia, in collaboration with fashion designer Crooks & Castles.

In a recent interview with GQ magazine he said: "I'm the sock king! They've got a cape on the back - that's how I flew here."

He went on to add that his fans should go buy them if they're passing through Antone Street in Atlanta.

Big Boi recently announced that he is to release a new solo studio album in November, which has just undergone a change of title.

The lyricist's forthcoming LP was going to be named Daddy Fat Sax: Soul Funk Crusader, however with its new indie direction this is being changed.

This is because he has recently worked with Modest Mouse and has also been listening to tracks by Lana Del Rey and Little Dragon, which have inspired him to try a new musical direction.

Gloucester Hat Festival prepares for first event
Next week the weird and wonderful world of millinery is to be celebrated as part of the first annual homage to headwear.

Celebrating the very best of design, it hopes to bring people of all ages and cultures together for a whole weekend of fun and discovery, The Gloucester Echo reports.

The festival will kick off with a parade through Gloucester on Friday 13th July, with workshops and exhibitions popping up across the city over the course of the weekend.

Kate Beckinsale 'prefers going without underwear'

Kate Beckinsale 'prefers going without underwear'
Kate Beckinsale has revealed that on a day-to-day basis she feels more comfortable without briefs.

The Underworld star admitted to Maxim magazine that there are only a few occasions when she would consider wearing underwear.

She confessed: "I don't wear knickers. I mean, unless I'm wearing a very short skirt, or maybe if I am going on a mountain expedition with extra layers. But no, I don't like them."

The 38-year-old action heroine is currently promoting her new film Total Recall, where she went on to discuss how she quickly got to know Colin Farrell while filming the sci-fi remake.

Later on in the interview she surprised fans by saying that while she enjoys doing action films she would consider going back to romantic comedy films if the scripts were amusing.

Vancouver underwear run raises cancer awareness

Vancouver underwear run raises cancer awareness
Residents of Vancouver and local celebrities were out in force this weekend to raise awareness and money for cancer care.

Vancouver's seventh annual Underwear Affair Saturday saw crowds of people take part in a charity run wearing nothing but their undies.

Twilight star Charlie Bewley was the first to cross the finish line, beating off over 1,000 other fun runners.

The actor explained to The Province on Sunday: "I literally turned up about half an hour before the race and asked if I could join."

This wasn't the first time that Charlie had helped with the B.C Cancer Foundation, as he also organised the Run For Your Life campaign, raising thousands of pounds for one of his friends who was suffering from lung cancer.

Unfortunately his friend died a week before the run, however it was still completed and the proceeds were donated in her name.

Michelle Keegan rocks black shiny leggings

Michelle Keegan rocks black shiny leggings
Michelle Keegan made it clear why she's won the sexiest soap female award so many times as she stepped out in a skintight outfit.

Posing for photographs at the Inside Soap Awards launch party the Coronation Street actress took inspiration from Olivia Newton-John's legwear in Grease, wearing a pair of super-tight, black shiny leggings.

On her top half she wore a sheer white shirt, revealing her bra underneath, and accessorised the whole look with a cropped black jacket and a pair of black peep-toe stilettos to elongate her slim pins.

Michelle was joined in Manchester by a whole host of other soap stars, including her Corrie co-stars Kym Marsh, Catherine Tyldesley and Jennie McAlpine.

Catherine chose to wear a bright red knee-length dress, while Jennie looked rather dressed down in a navy and cream dress, paired with black tights and orange shoes.

Matthew McConaughey 'hung out in underwear' on set

Matthew McConaughey stars in this month's sure-fire blockbuster hit Magic Mike, which requires him to spend much of the movie in little more than a thong.

But to get himself acclimatised and used to wearing less clothes the actor regularly wandered around set in only underwear, to make it feel more normal.

He told interviewers that it was odd to only wear a tiny thong, which "weighs like what a dollar bill weighs".

Therefore, Matthew said that due to its small size he had to work out how it looked on screen, adding "I gotta check to see if it's really covered, [if] everything is covered".

"I had to put on the thong and kind of walk around and try to have normal conversations," the actor explained, as it was essential that he felt comfortable in it if he was to play a veteran stripper with plenty of experience of exposing his body.

His co-star and the film's producer Channing Tatum has also recently admitted that it was funny tackling behind-the-scenes tasks with director Steven Soderbergh while wearing nothing but skimpy underwear.

Katie Price slips into tie-dye leggings

Katie Price slips into tie-dye leggings
Katie Price may be famous for wearing relatively few clothes, however for more professional occasions she understands when to cover up.

At the launch of her new website the glamour model stepped out in figure-forming blue tie-dye leggings, which she paired with a high-necked navy top.

While the outfit was clingy, with only her arms on show it was relatively demure for the entrepreneur, however she still sought to add in some colour thanks to some fluorescent pink heels.

Also at the bash was Katie's fiance, Argentinean model Leandro Penna, who stood out from the crowd with a very bright fake tan and a shiny silver suit.

Katie has recently become a trained fake tan applicator, sparking rumours that she had chosen to test out her newly qualified skills on her partner.

Also at the event was The Only Way is Essex star Lauren Booth, who partied with the mother-of-three in the DJ booth.

Jennifer Hudson sticks with shorts and tights

Jennifer Hudson sticks with shorts and tights
Jennifer Hudson showed that despite the warm weather and her newly svelte frame it still pays to keep a little covered up.

The singer attended the Metal Works Photography: Sculptures by Andrew Levitas Exhibition in New York yesterday wearing a very classy combination of black tights and a black shiny playsuit.

She tied the whole look together with sophisticated makeup and black printed ankle boots, all of which helped create an elegant, minimalist look.

Jennifer also wore a shorts and black tights combo the day before as she performed at the Taste of Chicago food festival.

Wearing leopard print hotpants over black tights she gave the outfit a racier edge by pairing it with a peplum-style black leather top.

The Dreamgirls star topped it all off with some chunky boots, while her hair was fixed in tight curls for a more feminine edition.

Designer bag bought for bargain price in charity shop

Designer bag bought for bargain price in charity shop
A 73-year-old man from west London had to pinch himself this week after finding out that his charity shop buy was in fact worth thousands.

John Richard discovered that the £20 handbag he bought in Oxfam was actually worth up to £350,000.

The bag was designed by Philip Treacy, who is best known for creating hats for the rich and famous, and was found in a box of bargains in his local branch.

Covered in a distinctive Elvis Presley design by pop artist Andy Warhol, it is believed to be one of only ten ever made.

Mr Richard told the Hampstead and Highgate Express that it was only two months after buying it that he decided to see whether it was genuine.

"I decided to take it to the Philip Treacy shop and they confirmed that it was one of their's," he revealed.

The bag would have sold for between £200 and £400 when it was first made, however Mr Richard has received offers of up to £350,000 for the bag from Chinese bidders.

Women's volleyball players 'may wear leggings'

Women's volleyball players 'may wear leggings'
The excitement over the upcoming Olympic Games seems to be building, however worries over the weather could threaten to dampen spirits.

This week British volleyball Olympian Shauna Mullin revealed that despite being renowned for wearing skimpy uniforms, the women's volleyball team may need to cover up to combat the cold.

She told the Sunday Times: "Once the temperature drops below 16 degrees C we are allowed to wear long leggings and long sleeved tops."

The temperature in London has been below this throughout July, with rain occurring most days in the capital.

However, a spokesman for Volleyball England said that it was up to the players to decide whether they want to cover up.

Tickets for the matches have been among the most sought after of the Games, with the government spending £26,000 on buying 400 beach volleyball passes for MPs and civil servants.

Tinie Tempah dons yellow socks for Polo Final

Tinie Tempah dons yellow socks for Polo Final
Fashion conscious Tinie Tempah looked suave in a pair of yellow socks, raincoat and tartan hunting trousers at the Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup Polo Final this weekend.

The rapper's uncharacteristic garb will have shocked fans, who are used to him wearing no socks at all.

However, it appears Tinie was willing to make a sacrifice to a higher calling for the Polo event, with his socks blending perfectly with the yellow Veuve branding that populated the Cowdray Park Polo Club in Midhurst.

As if to make his point, the Pass Out singer even rolled up his trousers to expose his ankles, unmistakably adorned with a pair of flawless, bright yellow socks.

In complete contrast, fashion designer Henry Holland opted to do the opposite when he was snapped at the event, rolling up his trousers to expose a pair of bare ankles for the attending cameras.

Mario Balotelli cavorts in Calvin Klein underwear

Mario Balotelli cavorts in Calvin Klein underwear
Mario Balotelli is certainly one of football's most promising young names, however, judging by recent pictures he might be also attempting to launch a new career as a male model.

The Manchester City striker was photographed lapping up the sunshine and cavorting with a group of bikini-clad women, as he strutted around in only his Calvin Klein underwear poolside in Ibiza.

He showed off his toned torso in a pair of tight purple underpants by the pool, before later pulling on a pair of white beach shorts.

Super Mario then attempted to copy David Beckham's famous ad campaign by donning some Emporio Armani boxer trunks, as he mingled with a bevy of female admirers.

The 21-year-old striker walked around outside his apartment in Ibiza, Spain, wearing a pair of tight purple underpants as he showed off his toned torso.

'Skimpy underwear' shocks historians

'Skimpy underwear' shocks historians
The discovery of 15th century undergarments has shocked historians.

Lain hidden in a vault under the floorboards of an Austrian castle since the 15th century lace and linen women's underwear have been found hundreds of years before such clothing was thought to exist.

While the knickers are a little decayed they bear a resemblance to the string bikini briefs popular today, while the matching bra has fitted cups and delicate straps much like modern-day designs.

Medieval men are known to have worn undergarments that look like contemporary shorts, however women were thought to wear a chemise or smock.

Knickers themselves did not make a regular appearance until the late 18th century, with bras not appearing in popular culture until the late Victorian era.

Hilary Davidson, fashion curator at the Museum of London, said that the discovery "totally rewrites" fashion history, adding: "Nothing has ever come up before."

German women 'prefer plain underwear'

German women 'prefer plain underwear'
A new international survey has shown just how different young people's approach to wearing sexy undergarments can be.

The concept of sexy underwear was found to differ between young men and women, with ladies thinking romantic lingerie is sexy, while naughty and flirty undies are the sexiest for males.

Bjorn Borg's study shows that Swedes and Germans prefer plain and simple underwear, which is in stark contrast to Spanish women who prefer saucier pants.

Some three quarters of interviewees across all the countries surveyed said they wore sexy underwear, including 99 per cent of Spanish ladies and 79 per cent of Chinese women.

Only 18 per cent of Chinese respondents said that they wore this type of undergarment on a date, compared to 95 per cent of French participants.

Opinion was pretty torn as to who women were wearing the sexy underwear for, however, over half of Brits admitted it was to make themselves feel confident rather than to please their partners.

Sofia Vergara dressed down as she took a stroll in New York earlier this week.

The Modern Family actress was pictured relaxing after a busy weekend of engagement celebrations and wore a pair of tight grey leggings a sleeveless blue striped vest, flip flops and a cornflower blue pashmina.

Socks and sandals 'is top dad cringe'

Socks and sandals 'is top dad cringe'
A new survey has found that dads are more likely to leave their children red-faced because of their embarrassing behaviour.

Specsavers research found that bad fashion sense, a lack of style and a cringeworthy car are some of the top parental faux pas.

While women might be able to get away with knee-high socks and sandals, this is an absolute no-no for dads, especially if they combine them with dodgy glasses, high waistbands and bad hairdos.

A spokesperson for the opticians said that while fathers might need a little style assistance "what normally embarrasses us in our early years endears them to us later in life".

"So kids need to help dads in designer distress to transform from dodgy to dapper," they recommended.

The firm is currently on the lookout for Britain's least fashion-savvy dad as part of their Dob in your Dad campaign.

Lindsey Lohan embraced laid-back style

Lindsey Lohan embraced laid-back style
Lindsay Lohan embraced time off from her new stint as Liz Taylor by channelling laid-back chic in a pair of black leggings.

The 26-year old actress showed off her enviable pins in the black leggings, which she paired with an oversized grey sweater and blue suede pumps.

She completed her relaxed look with some retro circular-framed sunglasses, layers of silver chains around her neck and a black tasselled shoulder bag.

Just hours later, Lindsay had undergone a dramatic transformation from laid-back to made up.

She wore an azure blue dress with cutaway sections at the waist and matching suede killer heels.

However, she then threw on clashing jade jewellery and the same slouchy leather bag from earlier in the day to tone down the dressed up look.

Adele 'loves cheap underwear'

Adele 'loves cheap underwear'
Adele may be one of the world's biggest pop stars but this doesn't means she's averse to bargains.

The Someone Like You singer is reportedly a huge fan of buying cheap underwear, especially if it's humorous.

Author Chas Newkey-Burden writes in Adele: The Biography that she's still as down to earth as ever and once followed a visit to Louis Vuitton with an affordable shopping spree.

He claims she "loves the £1 knickers with all the novelty designs and funny jokes on them. But she knows she can only wear them once because they just fall apart".

The 24-year-old is happier to splash out when it comes to handbags, with one of her most expensive models made by Chanel, costing over £2,000.

Another of Adele's luxuries is having her false nails, "ghetto nails," as she apparently calls them, which she says "make her feel like a woman".

Minnie Driver brightens up look in neon leggings
Minnie Driver kept things summery this weekend as she headed out to the gym in a bright and colourful outfit.

The 42-year-old actress drew attention to her slim frame in neon pink leggings, which she paired with a simple white top and matching trainers.

While the legwear was clearly the statement feature, Minnie kept up with her bold look by accessorising with a cobalt blue handbag, as she walked towards her workout session in Beverly Hills.

Her brunette locks were left loose and while she appeared to be makeup free, a pair of aviator sunglasses ensured she remained effortlessly glamorous.

Earlier on in the weekend the Good Will Hunting star was spotted on an outing with her son Henry in Malibu, where he seemed undaunted by the photographers and even posed for a few snaps.

Olympic athletes 'will not have underwear checked'

Olympic athletes 'will not have underwear checked'
Top lawyers have revealed that they won't be examining Olympic athletes undergarments for illicit logos.

Dennis Oswald, a senior member of the International Olympic Committee, claimed that while there were concerns about ambush marketing, searching for branding on underwear would be impractical.

However, he did warn that athletes would face fines if they lifted shirts or dropped their shorts to reveal unauthorised ads.

"It won't be practical to make checks before the players take to the field. However, the soccer player who revealed his underwear in the European Championship was penalised afterwards. That will be the same in the Olympics," Mr Oswald explained.

This announcement follows the actions of Denmark striker Nicklas Bendtner during June's European Championships, where he exposed the top of his underpants to show the name of bookmaker Paddy Power after scoring a goal.

He was subsequently banned for one game and fined £80,000 by UEFA, however the bookies offered to cover this.
