Peaches sports leggings at Glasto

Peaches sports leggings at Glasto

Peaches Geldof was spotted strutting around backstage at Glastonbury on Friday sporting a pair of dark leggings.

The 24-year-old pulled on a brown suede jacket, black t-shirt, a pair of denim shorts, those black leggings and a pair of black boots. The socialite also kept her feet warm and dry with a pair of thick woolly socks underneath her boots.

Geldof spent the entire weekend hanging out at the Somerset-based festival with sister Pixie and TV presenter Alexa Chung.

The Arctic Monkeys, The Rolling Stones and Mumford and Sons headlined the three day festival.

The Stones, who were playing Glastonbury for the first time in their 51-year history, were lauded by festival organiser Michael Eavis as the best headliners ever.

"It was 43 years in the making, 50 years for them, and we've finally come together. We're on the same page at last," Eavis said, on the third day of music at the festival.

More than 135,000 people attended this year's festival at Worthy Farm.

Este Haim rocks black leggings

Este Haim rocks black leggings

Este Haim of the eponymous California rock band took to the famous Glastonbury stage on Saturday in a pair of black leggings.

Este, who plays bass in the four piece group alongside sisters Danielle and Alana and drummer Dash Hutton, pulled on the dark leggings underneath a lacy black dress and black boots. The bassist also walked on stage wearing a black leather jacket that she later removed in the warm summer sunshine.

Following the gig, Este, who is diabetic, told the NME that she "almost died" during the band's lunchtime set.

She told the music magazine that she had forgotten to eat before HAIM's performance causing her to feel unwell.

"I remember not being able to feel my arms, and I was like 'This is not a normal feeling when I'm playing music'," she said.

"I thought that I was gonna pass out and my eyes kind of glazed over at the end of the song and I had to go offstage because I thought that I was going to die in front of 25,000 people."

HAIM later joined Primal Scream on the Pyramid Stage, singing backing vocals on the Scottish rockers' final three songs.

Cole pulled on a pair of sheer tights, a pink blouse and black court shoes underneath her red, light blue and yellow graduation robes and black ceremonial hat.

The double Cambridge graduate received an honorary doctorate of letters in recognition of her environmental and humanitarian work.

"It is pretty fun. I was quite surprised at first and very honoured and then a bit nervous but now I'm here and it actually just feels quite jolly," she said.

Cole has put her modelling career on hiatus in order to focus more on her charity projects.

The 25-year-old has worked for global charities such as WaterAid, Global Angels and the Environmental Justice Foundation.

US rapper Jay-Z has revealed that he and wife Beyoncé Knowles-Carter dance around at home in their socks, when choosing tracks to feature on Beyoncé's albums.

Socks: This summer's festival fad?

Socks: This summer's festival fad?

Glastonbury started it, and now T in the Park is continuing it. The British festival season is well underway and the socks and wellies combination seems here to stay.

Revellers at this year's Kinross-based festival have been spotted entering the campsite with pairs of socks poking out over their wellies.

Despite the weather hitting a balmy 26 degree Celsius on Friday, hundreds of festival goers have opted to pull on their woollies suggesting that what started at Glasto may have become this festival season's hottest fashion trend.

With the forecast set to remain dry over the weekend it is unclear whether revellers will opt to swap their wellies for an airier pair of sandals or stay prepared for mud with their socks and wellies.

Having headlined Glastonbury last month Mumford and Sons are back at the top of the bill on Friday, supported by drum and bass outfit Chase and Status.

Rihanna will headline on Saturday night, before the Killers bring the festival to a close on Sunday.

Guinness opts for the black stuff

With the weather getting warmer, many celebs have been taking the opportunity to flash their bare legs, but Jasmine Guinness shunned the temptation to show off her pins at the Lulu Guinness Paint Project in London last week.

George Bush shows more snazzy socks

George Bush shows more snazzy socks

As George H.W. Bush returned to the White House this week all eyes were firmly on the former president's footwear.

The 41st president, who was recently spotted in Superman socks, pulled on a snazzy red and white striped pair for a reception at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Bush's penchant for patterned socks is well known and his son Neil has described him as a "style setter".

Last month the George H.W. Bush Library Foundation in Texas urged Americans to pull on a pair of wacky socks to celebrate his 89th birthday.

President Bush and wife Barbara joined Barack and Michelle Obama to commemorate the 5,000th award of the Daily Point of Light Award, which was set up following Bush's inauguration in 1989.

"It's like coming home for Barbara and me with the rest of you just coming to this magnificent house and being greeted by this superb hospitality knows no bounds," Bush said.

Pupils campaign for knee-high socks

Pupils campaign for knee-high socks

A school in Hertfordshire has banned girls from wearing trendy knee-high socks.

Bishop's Hatfield Girls' School in Hatfield has issued new rules that forbid pupils from wearing skirts that are shorter than three inches above the knee and insisting that tights should been worn instead of socks.

The controversial new regulations will come into effect in September however pupils have already launched a petition in an attempt to reverse the decision.

The school is thought to have brought in the rules after parents and members of the public complained about how some of the girls looked when they were in the town.

"They wear their socks over the knee, and short skirts and it does not present them in the best light," headteacher Theodora Nickson told the Welwyn Hatfield Times.

"My concern is that members of the public will judge our girls and the school because of it. We are just strengthening the uniform rules. Most girls wear tights anyway."

Ms Nickson insisted that socks had not been banned outright but said the changes were to encourage pupils to dress appropriately.

She added that on hot days girls would be given the opportunity to wear socks instead of tights.

Summer's fashion crimes revealed

Summer's fashion crimes revealed

It gained notoriety as summer fashion's biggest number one faux pas, sniggered and snorted at by fashionistas and synonymous with middle-aged German backpackers.

However, the garish socks and sandals combination has been toppled from its place as the worst holiday fashion crime, according to a survey by sunshine.co.uk.

The poll placed cut-out swimsuits at the top of its list of most heinous holidaymaker style disasters.

The swimsuits, which have been modelled by the likes of Rihanna, Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton, were deemed a poor choice of outfit by 61% of people who took part in the survey.

"It seems both men and women alike aren't a fan of the cut out swimsuit trend," a spokesman for sunshine.co.uk said.

But that isn't to say people can start pulling on their socks and sandals, as the combo followed in a close second place with 59% of people naming it as a summer fashion no-no.

More than half the respondents (52%) also admitted that they didn't make any effort to look stylish when they were on their holidays.

"A holiday shouldn't be a fashion parade and, whilst it's nice to dress up on the occasional evening, the most important thing is to wear what you feel good in and what keeps you cool on a warm break," the spokesman added.

Meet the sock stealing cat burglar

Meet the sock stealing cat burglar

A woman in Arbroath has revealed that her pet cat has developed an interesting obsession with socks.

Marion McComb, 78, told the Daily Record that her cat, Patch, has brought her more than 30 socks from neighbours' houses and gardens.

"Patch is a little thief - a kleptomaniac," Marion said. "It used to be odd socks, but then it got into a real habit - socks in all colours and sizes."

However Marion says that her friends and neighbours have seen the funny side of the 11-year-old cat's criminal instincts.

"My friends and neighbours think it's hilarious. They just go on about the 'sock thief' and hope that Patch doesn't steal from them.

"Whether she sneaks into people's houses and goes through their dirty laundry or she picks them from washing lines is a mystery."

Marion says that she collects and washes all the missing socks but if nobody comes to collect them then she will donate them to charity.

Socks for Vangsness at Comic-Con

Kirsten Vangsness pulled on a pair of tartan socks for Entertainment Weekly's Comic-Con Celebration in Californina on Saturday.

The 41-year-old actress sported the tartan socks, with a pair of shin high boots, a skirt adorned with a nocturnal mesa-landscape scene, a black cardigan and a turquoise corset.

The Criminal Minds star also brought along with her a plastic space gun to give herself a unique comic-book heroine persona.

Despite being at the world's most celebrated comic book festival, Vangsness was surprisingly alone in her sense of adventurous dress among the guests at Float at Hard Rock Hotel in San Diego.

Vangsness, who plays FBI Technical Analyst Penelope Garcia in the long running CBS crime drama, is set to star alongside Dean Lemont in the film noir comedy Kill Me, Deadly! which is predicted to be released later this year.

Vangsness and Lemont starred opposite each other in the original theatre version of Bill Robens' play.

Kate sticks with the sheer tights

Kate sticks with the sheer tights

It appears that the Duchess of Cambridge pulled on a pair of sheer tights once more as she left St. Mary's Hospital with her newborn son on Tuesday.

The new mother carried her baby in her arms as she left the £6,000 a night private hospital in Paddington, wearing a light blue polka-dot dress by Jenny Packham, sheer tights and cream wedged heels.

Kate and husband William posed for photographs outside St. Mary's Lido wing before heading off in a black Range Rover.

Onlookers were quick to compare the dress worn by Kate to that worn by her late mother-in-law on the day that William was born.

Many mother's groups praised Kate for still leaving an outline of her baby bump in her choice of outfit.

"In a couple of minutes on the steps of the Lindo Wing, Kate has done more for new mums' self esteem than any other role model," Siobhan Freegard, founder of Netmums said.

Ah ha! Alan Partridge flashes socks

Ah ha! Alan Partridge flashes socks

Ah ha! Radio Norwich's very own Alan Partridge showed off his socks at the London premiere of the much anticipated Alpha Papa on Wednesday.

The 55-year-old radio presenter pulled on a fetching pair of black socks underneath his baby-blue suit, tailored by Gresham Blake, a crisp, white shirt, a pink tie and brown loafers.

The DJ, portrayed by Steve Coogan, flew into Leicester Square in a helicopter having previously attended the world premiere in Norwich a couple of hours beforehand.

Partridge said that his return to Norwich felt like "sitting in a warm bath whilst having a cup of cocoa and peanut butter on toast whilst watching Air Crash Investigation on a TV - it feels good".

Upon reaching London, the often controversial DJ had changed his tune about airing the world premiere in his home city.

"This is the real premiere. The Norwich thing was just me throwing a bone to the dogs. That was just a tin pot sideshow, frankly. But they won't mind me saying that because they don't watch national news," he said.

While Partridge said that he didn't expect the film to win any Academy Awards, he believed that it could have a deep cultural impact.

"It's one that could spark a cultural renaissance that is as cultural as the Renaissance."

Yohan Blake: Socks man

Yohan Blake: Socks man

Olympic athlete Yohan Blake has said he is obsessed with "pretty socks".

Speaking to GQ magazine, the sprinter said that at home he is known as "socks man" because of his love of brightly-coloured and patterned footwear, which he picks up on his travels around the globe.

"I love to get them from different stores all over the world. The last pair I bought was in Canada, they were a mix of pink, orange, blue, grey," he told the publication.

Blake added that he has such a wide variety of socks as he likes to wear different ones on each foot.

Yohan's love of patterned socks is well documented, and in the past he has been spotted in pairs patterned with burgers and bright stripes. He often wears them pulled up his calf so they are more visible.

He has also said that he thinks his socks help him reach his medal-winning pace.

Coffee aroma socks to hit the US

Coffee aroma socks to hit the US

A Boston-based company has received funding to help it develop and manufacturer a range of coffee-scented socks.

Ministry of Supply (MOS) has managed to raise over $200,000 in crowd source funding to make socks that help to reduce sweat and odour.

The designers, all who are former students at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), have blended carbonised coffee into a mix of different fibres to make the socks, which they claim absorbs "stink molecules".

However, Ministry of Supply still say that the socks have to be washed regularly to help them maintain their freshness.

"Odour control is difficult in socks. As such, we turned to nature to find an effective way to create a fresher sock, leading us to coffee," the team said.

The socks took eight months to develop in a laboratory, but are now ready for commercial production.

The MOS team says it takes 16 coffee beans in total to make a pair of these socks.

Socks and sandals: Fashion disaster

Socks and sandals: Fashion disaster

They may have escaped the dubious honour of being named the number one style disaster in a recent poll by sunshine.co.uk, but socks and sandals have climbed back to the top of the uncool charts after being named the biggest ever fashion faux pas in a survey by a high street retailer.

The combination of socks and sandals narrowly held off platforms for men in the poll.

Low slung trousers, velour tracksuits and harem pants made up the rest of the top five style faux pas, while crop tops, scrunchies, bum bags, shell suits and trucker hats all made it into the top 10.

"Socks and sandals are the epitome of British summer style gone wrong," a spokesperson for the retailer said.

Despite the combo appearing at the top of the list, celebrities such as David Beckham and Justin Bieber have been snapped wearing the shameful blend of socks and sandals in recent times.
